Rain washes out Highway 165 in northern Saskatchewan

La Ronge RCMP say no one was injured after a car was driven into a washed out portion of Highway 165 in northern Saskatchewan.

At around 11 a.m. CT on July 9, police were notified by the driver that had gone into the washout while driving in the rain. Officers responded to the single-vehicle crash southeast of La Ronge and found the vehicle in-between the road.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure was alerted and immediately closed Highway 165 between its junction with Highway 912 and Highway 106.

Officials said the washout was caused by recent, significant rainfall.

Damage is currently being assessed and arrangements are being made to repair the road as soon as water flow in the area is reduced to allow the work to be done safely and effectively.

If the weather cooperates, officials said Highway 165 could reopen before the week is out.

In the meantime, motorists can detour using Highways 912, 913 and 106.

Drivers can check the Highway Hotline for closures and road restrictions across the province before heading out.
