WINNIPEG — Two days after a man was killed in a violent attack in Winnipeg’s downtown, a candlelight vigil was held to honour 26-year-old Cyril Quentin Weenusk’s life.

“It really hurts, my cousin was a very outgoing guy, he will surely be missed,” Rick Wass, Weenusk’s cousin said. “This is hard for us to experience.”

Weenusk was the father of four young children. He died after an altercation with a group of people in the area of Portage Avenue and Donald Street early Tuesday morning, police said.

It was an emotional evening as family, friends and strangers joined together outside of the MTS Centre, close to where the father was attacked.

“Just a very good guy, pride in his family and himself,” Sheila North Wilson, Weenusk’s cousin said.

Winnipeg police also confirmed no weapons were used during the attack. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
