With the looming threat of a possible strike or lockout at Canada Post, there are some things the City of Lethbridge says you should be doing to prepare yourself if you use the service.

City officials are reminding residents not to send payments through the mail. Instead, you’re urged to use alternative methods of paying.

Those methods include:

  • Paying bills in person at City Hall, 910-4 Ave. S, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on business days. Cash, cheques and debit are all accepted.
  • Deposit boxes are stationed around the city including:
    • Fritz Sick Centre, 420-11 St. S
    • City Hall front entrance, 910-4 Ave. S
    • Yates Memorial Centre, 1002-4 Ave. S
    • Stan Siwik Pool, 1901-15 Ave. N
    • Nicholas Sheran Pool, 401 Laval Blvd. W
  • Online banking through most financial institutions. Please allow for two to three days for processing.
  • In person at most financial institutions.

The city is stressing that payments are due by the date on your payment notice and late payment fees will not be waived.

Another important piece of mail that won’t arrive in your mailbox are photo radar tickets.

The Lethbridge Police Service halted mail delivery of the tickets on June 27 in preparation for the possible interruption. However, Staff Sgt. Dwayne Smith said not to worry, your tickets will arrive eventually.

“The cameras and everything are still working and we are still going to various sites,” Smith said. “We’re just suspending the mailing of those notices until the postal negotiations are completed.”

Smith said if you applied for a police background check before May 29, they should have been delivered already. If you applied after that date, they are looking into a system so you can pick them up at police headquarters.
