Alberta’s auditor general has cleared the government of breaking any rules to re-build the Kananaskis Country Golf Course and private operating contract.
The 36-hole course in K-Country, west of Calgary, was severely damaged when the Kananaskis River flooded in 2013.
In 2014, the (then-Conservative) government re-negotiated a contract with a private operator to run the course for another 10 years and re-build the course.

The auditor general investigated whether the new agreement with Kan-Alta Golf Management provided value for money and if government contracting practices were followed.
“Auditors found that the department used adequate contracting processes in 2014 when it recommended to cabinet to rebuild KCGC and signed the three agreements with Kan-Alta in July 2014,” said the report released Tuesday. “The agreements made financial sense given the existing contractual commitments the department had with Kan-Alta at the time of the flood. Auditors did not make any recommendations to the department.”
