WINNIPEG — Mountain bikers will soon have a new course at FortWhyte Alive, thanks to a $45 thousand provincial grant which was presented to the Manitoba Cycling Association on Thursday.
The course, otherwise known as Bison Butte, will also serve as a venue for the 2017 Canada Summer Games taking place in Winnipeg from July 28 to August 13.
“This venue will be a major legacy on these Canada Games and will be enjoyed for years to come by cyclists of all ages and ability levels,” said Twila Cruickshank, executive director of the Manitoba Cycling Association.
The grant was included as part of the Community Places program, which provides funding and planning assistance to non-profit community organizations for facility construction, upgrading, expansion or acquisition projects. Over the last 30 years, the program has provided more than $118 million to support more than 7,700 community-led projects across Manitoba.
“This is just one example of how the Community Places program is helping to improve the quality of life in our province,” Indigenous and Municipal Relations Minster Eileen Clarke said.
“On behalf of Manitoba’s new government, we’re proud to help neighborhoods and communities flourish while encouraging Manitoban’s to make community activities part of a healthy lifestyle.”
