Mosquito numbers down in Saskatoon

Saskatoon may soon be out of the woods when it comes to the mosquito that carries the West Nile virus.

The city’s pest management department says mosquito numbers are way down compared to this time last year.

No Culex tarsalis were recorded in traps and the peak season for the pesky virus-infected insect has past.

Crews will continue to larvacide bodies of water in and around the city right into September to mitigate the hatch next spring.

There has been one reported human case of West Nile in the province this year.
