Police say they responded to the scene around 7 p.m. and located the pooch with a gunshot wound near Empringham Drive and Sewells Road in Malvern.

“We don’t believe dog was the target,” said Sgt. David Crampton. “Unfortunately, the dog was an unintended victim.”

The dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police say multiple shots were directed at a townhouse complex but it is unknown who the intended target was.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
