Jennifer Cusworth remembered

She was killed and left on the side of the road almost 19 years ago but on Saturday, family and friends gathered to remember the life of murder victim Jennifer Cusworth.

Family and friends met for a special celebration of life for the young woman at Okanagan College in Kelowna on Saturday.

They shared memories of the 19-year-old that stirred up both tears and laughter.

Mother Jean shared how Jennifer cried out “Yeah mommy” during her mother’s graduation ceremony at UBC. Though Jean says she was mortified at the time, she laughed as she shared the memory.

Jean also told stories of taking her daughter shopping for a graduation dress and how the teen’s nickname was “ice water” because she liked to drink ice water when she went out to the night clubs.

“Love never dies,” Jean said to the group of about 40 people after she shared her stories.

Father Terry told the group how he understood the phrase “love at first sight” the first time he laid eyes on Jennifer after she was born.

Members of the RCMP along with Crown lawyers from the 2011 murder trial also attended the celebration.

Kelowna resident and father of four young children Neil Snelson was convicted of manslaughter last year and remains behind bars.

Snelson was arrested 16 years after the brutal murder thanks in part to Jennifer’s parents, who never stopped putting pressure on RCMP to solve the case.

Her parents did not wish to speak to the media.
