Police in Saskatchewan are reminding drivers to slow to 60 km/h when passing an activated emergency vehicle.
An enforcement blitz is being held across the province this week to target the infraction.

The law states drivers must slow down when police, fire, EMS and tow trucks are pulled over, with their lights on.
This applies even when you are not in the lane directly beside an emergency vehicle or are traveling in the opposite direction.
“From my own observations I would say that about thirty per cent or less of vehicles out there actually slow down for us when we’re stopped on the side of the highway,” said Sgt. Patrick Barbar from Saskatoon Police Service combined traffic services unit.
“What we’d like people to realize is when they see the flashing lights out on the highway, it means someone is working on the roadway, regardless of what type of emergency worker it is.”

Last year, 478 drivers were ticketed in two traffic safety events. Fines start at $210 for going 10 km/h faster than the maximum of 60 km/h.
A second province-wide enforcement blitz will be held in October.
