The Public Works and Infrastructure committee will debate a report on Monday to maintain a ban on basketball and hockey nets on pubic roadways.
The city’s Transportation Services department said in its report that the “Status Quo” option is the best approach which “allows Transportation Services and Toronto Police Services to undertake enforcement when these activities are causing a hazard, or as a result of a complaint.”

The report also states that there are “legitimate safety and liability concerns” with amending the municipal code.
“Enforcement of these regulations should remain complaint driven and discretionary,” said the report.
The city says the basketball and hockey net ban has rarely been enforced but is nonetheless necessary.
If the report is approved, it will go to city council next month for a final vote.
