The Alex Community Food Centre is not yet completed, but today visitors were allowed in to get a behind the scenes look, as part of Neighbour Day 2016.

The 5,300 square feet space is housed in a former restaurant on International Avenue, in the heart of Forest Lawn.

When it is up and running, Calgarians will be able to access, grow, cook and share fresh food.

There will be a commercial kitchen and a hundred seat dinning room.

“We know there is a strong connection between good food and physical and emotional well-being, yet many Calgarians struggle every day to put enough food on the table for themselves and their kids,” said Renee MacKillop, Program Manager.

MacKillop went on to say, “This centre will be a step toward growing a healthier community by providing barrier free access to healthy food and food skills.”
