POINTE-CLAIRE – Transports Quebec has closed one lane in the northbound direction on Sources Boulevard above Highway 20 in Pointe-Claire and a weight limit has been imposed on heavy vehicles heading south.
The security measures were taken May 24 after engineers inspected the bridge.
A Transports Quebec spokesperson says the overpass is safe but no repairs have been made to the overpass since the last general inspection in 2013.
That report recommended the overpass be torn down and replaced with a new one but Transports Quebec hasn’t decided whether that will happen.

“It may take a long time as it may take less time. But we are just thinking,” Transports Quebec’s Nomba Danielle, told Global News.
Danielle said the department is trying to decide whether it’s more economical to repair the structure or replace it entirely.
The lack of action isn’t sitting well with many residents and users of the overpass.
“I feel maybe the safety of the public is being put in jeopardy so something should be done. I ride around here, I cross over with my bike and I see it. It’s just getting worse and worse,” said Dorval resident Mario Mammone.
Others agree.
“You want to see things done. And until there is a major tragedy, something falls, somebody gets hurts or somebody gets killed nothing is going to be done,” Pat Villeneuve, an employee of Frasers Source for Sports told Global News.
The overpass is a critical exchange for the area — it links Highway 20 to Lakeshore Road and other local West Island streets.
Until a decision on the future of the overpass is made people will have to hedge their bets that it won’t collapse while waiting for a new one to be built.
