Regina police have finished their investigation after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted two weeks ago in a downtown alley.

Based on “compelling, objective evidence,” police say they have determined the allegation is unfounded and the man involved in the interaction will not face sexual assault-related charges in connection with the incident.

At around 5:30 p.m. on June 1, Regina police received a complaint of a sexual assault in the west alley of the 1800 block of Scarth Street.

At the time, police said a 23-year-old woman reported that a man followed her and sexually assaulted her in the alley. The report said the attacker was scared off shortly after when the victim’s cellphone rang.

Now, after a subsequent investigation, police said the original report was not accurate and the evidence has exonerated the alleged suspect.

However, police have emphasized the outcome of this investigation has no bearing on other reported incidents of sexual assault.
