Police are investigating after a dog was found in a Brampton, Ont., park last month, possibly beaten to death.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the approximately five-year-old male Cane Corso dog with dark brown brindle fur was found dead near a parking area in White Spruce Park on May 10.

The dog was sent for a necropsy to determine the cause of death, which was recently revealed to be blunt force trauma. Officers said the dog had been dead for 24 hours before it was found.

“We need the public to give us more information so we can find out if this was an act of animal cruelty or something else,” said Allison Cross, spokeswoman for the OSPCA.

“We had to wait for the necropsy to be complete to find out was this illness or was this something else that may have caused the death and because the results came back saying blunt force trauma we want to know more about this animal.”

Animal Services and the OSPCA are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information on the dog and how it got into the state in which it was found to call 310-SPCA, the Ontario SPCA’s 24/7 call centre for reporting animal cruelty.
