Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Monday evening for Drayton Valley, Devon, Rimbey, Pigeon Lake as well as for Leduc County near Calmar, Devon, Warburg and Thorsby.
Meteorologists tracking the storm said it was located about 15 kilometres northeast of Drayton Valley at 10 p.m. and was moving east at 40 kilometres per hour.
People are being urged to take cover immediately if “threatening weather approaches” and are being warned about the potential for large hail, strong wind gusts, torrential rain and lightning.
