Montreal teen drowns getting soccer ball from closed public pool

MONTREAL – A 15-year-old boy has drowned after climbing a fence around a closed public pool in Montreal Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson Constable Anie Lemieux said that the boy was with a group of friends playing soccer at a park in Lasalle, a borough of Montreal.

At around 10 p.m., the boy scaled the fence of the adjoining Raymond Park pool.

“It’s possible that they were going into the pool to get a ball,” Lemieu confirmed to Global News.

The city-run pool is in Raymond Park, behind LaSalle Community Comprehensive High School.

It was closed, so there were no lifeguards on duty and the lights were off.

After some time had passed, members of the group noticed the teen was at the bottom of the pool.
