Suspect charged in multiple Vernon arson fires

Vernon – A man has been charged in connection with four 2014 arson fires in Vernon and Coldstream.

They involved two homes under construction, a mini-van and tires and trailer owned by the local Go Kart Association.

William Murray Phelps Munton, 55, was arrested Wednesday and released from custody pending a July court appearance.

“It is the dedicated efforts of several investigators over the past two years that has resulted in charges being laid,” says RCMP Supt. Jim McNamara in a news release.

Police anticipate additional arson charges will be laid.

On Friday afternoon, the Mounties had secured the perimeter of a house on the 2000 block of 33rd Street and were awaiting a warrant to search the property as part of the ongoing investigation.
