Lethbridge police confirm a 16-year-old girl was killed after she was driven over by a truck on Thursday morning.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Red Crow Boulevard west at around 5:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from the driver of the vehicle.
The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where she later died.
Police determined the girl was under the truck at the time she was run over but are unsure how long the girl was there or why.
A neighbour told Global News she heard a teenage girl had been sleeping under the truck and was run over when the driver backed the vehicle out of his driveway.
The neighbour said the 55-year-old driver was very shaken by the incident.
The girl’s body will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
Members of the Traffic Response Unit have determined the driver’s actions were accidental and no charges will be laid.
Because the incident is non-criminal in nature, no further details will be released.
