Codiac RCMP are warning local businesses not to leave any valuables unsecured in vehicles on their property after a landscape company had $40,000 worth of equipment stolen from its yard.

“They walked around like they owned the place,” Signature Landscape owner Joe Wynberg said Tuesday.

Security cameras at his Moncton business caught the brazen thieves lurking around his property just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

“I think there was three people involved and they were pretty overt about it,” Wynberg said.

Wynberg says they spent about 25 minutes rooting through an 18-foot cargo trailer before they made off with the entire trailer full of industrial mowers and lawn equipment.

“It was a big mower, probably worth about $20,000 to $25,000 — there was two smaller mowers, two walk-behind mowers and two whipper-snippers and a backpack blower.”

Wynberg says his business will have to eat the loss. This is their third theft in three years and his insurance premiums have gotten so high he fears putting in another claim will increase them again.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s getting hard on business — hard to operate a business when you can’t keep your hands on anything,” he said.

RCMP say the investigation is still in its early stages and won’t say if there are any leads, but are asking the public to contact them if they have any information about the incident.

They are also warning the public to be aware of ongoing thefts from vehicles throughout Greater Moncton.

“If you happen to see anyone in the area that are looking into vehicles or anything else — and also if there is anything of value, make sure it is locked inside or locked in the truck somewhere,” Sgt. Jamie Melanson said.

Wynberg posted the photos on social media hoping to find the thieves so he can gets his equipment back.

“My biggest issue is that we need all those tools for our employees to work and for them to make a living, so I feel bad for them because the crew that used that equipment had nothing to do yesterday and today,” Wynberg said.

His customers are missing out too — the loss of equipment has set Signature Landscape behind at the onset of their busiest season.
