MONTREAL – A 69-year-old man is dead after his minivan was rear-ended causing his vehicle to slam into roadside construction machinery in Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois southeast of Montreal.
The collision happened around 6:00 a.m. Sunday on Highway 133.
The victim was heading southbound in his minivan when he was rear-ended by another vehicle in a construction zone.
The impact caused him to lose control of his minivan and he slammed into a piece of heavy machinery parked on the opposite side of the road.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed he was not wearing a seat belt.
The two occupants in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The highway remained closed for several hours as SQ officers investigated.
Police believe alcohol and speed were not contributing factors in the crash.
