QUEBEC CITY – Parti Québécois (PQ) leadership candidate Véronique Hivon is promising to introduce electoral reform if she becomes premier.

Hivon said changes need to be implemented to take into account the percentage of votes garnered by each party represented in the national assembly.

She did not specify which system she prefers.

Hivon said Tuesday any electoral-reform changes would have to go to a province-wide referendum.
Hivon also wants more free votes in the legislature.

She and fellow former cabinet ministers Alexandre Cloutier and Jean-François Lisée are the three declared candidates so far in the race to succeed Pierre Karl Péladeau as PQ leader.
