REGINA – Regina police officers used a Taser on a woman Friday morning after she threatened to harm herself.
Police say at approximately 10:24 a.m. on May 20, officers were called to a park in the north end of the city to respond to a 38-year-old woman who had contacted the police and threatened to harm herself.
Two officers found the woman and saw that she was carrying a knife. After chasing her briefly, they tried to negotiate with her.
Police said at the time she was highly emotional, agitated and her words and actions indicated she intended to harm herself with the knife. The officers were unsuccessful in negotiating and the woman attempted to cut herself.
One of the officers used his Taser to get the woman to drop the knife. She was taken into custody and checked out by EMS before being transported to the hospital.
Police say the woman was not harmed in the incident or injured due to the use of a Taser. She is not facing any charges.
