A Saskatchewan man convicted of threatening to cut the head off his former girlfriend with a machete has been given 16 months in jail. Raymond Knife, 34, was sentenced Monday after a Prince Albert judge found him guilty last Friday of one charge of assault and one of threatening to use a weapon.

Court was told that Knife and his partner, who was pregnant at the time of last summer’s assault, visited the city from Saskatoon to sell crystal meth.

A conflict arose when the woman wanted to return to Saskatoon and Knife learned she had been communicating with a former partner.

Court heard the accused pushed her down to take her money and cellphone away, then threatened to behead her.
