Evacuation orders to be lifted for Manitoba wildfire evacuees on Tuesday

WINNIPEG — Wildfire evacuees in the areas of Caddy Lake, Ingolf and West Hawk Lake will be allowed back onto their properties after evacuation orders were lifted on Sunday afternoon. The evacuation order lift will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Those who are returning are being asked to bring identification and proof of ownership to their properties, which would include a tax bill or mail directed to the property.

The province added that 35 crews and equipment is involved in the fire fight near Caddy Lake and that fire is now 65 per cent controlled. Evacuation orders for Nora and Florence lakes remain in effect.

The effort to fight and control wildfires on the eastern border of Manitoba and stretching into Ontario has been ongoing for over a week. On Saturday, fire officials said the recent cold and wet weather has helped dampen the spread of the fires.

Despite the lift of the evacuation orders for a few communities, several remain. PR 312 from one kilometre easy of PTH 44 remains closed. And the Beresford fire continues at approximately 75,000 hectares as do hiking trails in Whiteshell Provincial Park, the Hunt Lake, Mantario and McGillivray Falls.

The Beresford Lake fire continues to be a stubborn fight. It is now 75,000 hectares and 22 crews are working in the area. Sprinkler systems have been set up to protect properties, with the help of firefighters that have been brought in from Nova Scotia.

58 wildfires have been recorded this year. The average for this time of year is 89.
