WINNIPEG – Cool weather continues to help crews get two large wildfires on the Manitoba/Ontario border under control.

The fire near Caddy Lake in the Whiteshell area is still around 5,800 hectares in size but is now more than 50 per cent contained.

However, all evacuations orders for this area are still in effect and provincial road 312 east of Highway 44 is still closed.

The weather has allowed travel and burn restrictions to be eased in the area but there could still be local or municipal bans and restrictions in place.

Progress has also been made on the Beresford Lake fire which is still approximately 75,000 hectares in size but is now 50 per cent contained.

Twenty firefighters from Nova Scotia have joined the complement of crews working on this fire.
