About 20 Nova Scotia firefighters are heading west Friday to help to fight wildfires — but they’re not heading to Fort McMurray.

Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines says Manitoba has requested help to fight large fires straddling the provincial border with Ontario.

Hines says in a statement that Nova Scotians are concerned about Canadians out west and want to help.

Twenty New Brunswick firefighters and two support staff left Wednesday to help battle the northern Alberta fire that forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray last week.
