Springhill Institution in lockdown for unknown search

Springhill federal prison in Springhill, Nova Scotia is under lockdown as staff conduct a search.

The correctional institution hasn’t said what staff is searching for, but a release says it’s being conducted for the “safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.”

The lockdown was ordered two days ago, on May 9, at 9:30 a.m. Since then, no one has been allowed to visit the prison.

Springhill says regular operations will resume when it’s determined it’s safe to do so.
