Fort McMurray is fighting spot fires — and potentially looting — as it sets to rebuild. Now B.C. police are being redeployed to the hard-hit area to assist.
“At the request of the Alberta RCMP, the BC RCMP will be sending approximately 150 police officers to assist in Fort McMurray,” said Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, E Division spokesperson.

He says the B.C. officers heading to Alberta will be mostly tactical troop members and traffic services officers. Both are used to being redeployed on short notice for serious events.
Sgt. Vermeulen says needs within B.C. have been taken into consideration when selecting which officers will be deployed to the fire zone so as to not adversely affect any local RCMP detachment.
