Local driver Rzadzinski places 9th in Star Mazda Championship Qualifying

Racing Saturday morning, Stefan Rzadzinski came in 9th in the Star Mazda Championship Qualifying race at the Edmonton Indy.

He had a time of 1:29.255.

Rzadzinski , 19, is competing in the Star Mazda Championship at this weekend’s Edmonton Indy. On Friday, he finished third in the second half hour practice session of the day.

His third place finish, in his #93 JDC Motorsports (Powered by Alberta) car, came in at 1:28.865. He was fifth in the morning session.

“Things are looking good for this weekend. That was definitely my best session all year,” says Rzadzinski.

Rzadzinski is the only IncyCar licensed driver in Alberta and at 18 he became the youngest driver in Alberta to earn that license. In March of this year Rzadzinski joined the JDC Motorsports racing team.

“It’s been busy. I definitely don’t get as much time to hang out as a typical 19 year old anymore, but I can’t complain. I am really chasing what I love doing and it’s important to me,” adds Rzadzinski.

Aside from his racing, Rzadzinski is also a full-time business student at MacEwan University, and over the past year he has been busy looking for racing sponsors.
“He has shown so much potential very early on, so obviously we want to capitalize on that in moving him up as soon as we can,” says driver manager Matthias Czabok.
“He is extremely good off the track as well, and that’s what makes his so unique that he is really the full package… I haven’t seen something combined like that for a long long time. I am really excited.”

Rzadzinski had his first race at the Edmonton Indy in 2011, where he had two Indy Lights Starts. He participated in the highest junior open wheel category in North American with only two days of testing prior to the event. He ended with a top-10 finish in his first pro-series start.

The 2010 season ended with Rzadzinski competing in the Skip Barber Karting Shoot-out and was awarded a Skip Barber Regional Race Series Scholarship for 2011.
He entered the Ontario Formula Ford Championship in 2009 as a rookie. In his rookie season Rzadzinski earned Rookie of the Year and the prestigious Brian Stewart Racing Award, and all before graduating high school.
