Contracts went out Monday evening to start work, which is slated to be completed in November.
The job represents one of the most ambitious roadwork projects the borough has undertaken, according to mayor Russell Copeman.

“It’s an excellent example of centre-city cooperation with the borough that is allowing us to do this record project on our local streets,” he said.
“About 10 per cent of the borough’s roads – or 22 km – will be redone.”
Borough officials had previously said they could accomplish the project by focusing money on the problem of roads, shifting some recreational funding into infrastructure and finding centre-city grants.
In addition, a parallel $10-million project is slated to start in October that would take a car lane off de la Savane Street and replace it with a bike path between Decarie Boulevard and Jean-Talon Street, effectively revamping the street.
