EDMONTON – As work continues on the much-delayed 102 Avenue Bridge project, Groat Road will be closed for about 18 hours this weekend.

Groat Road will be totally closed to traffic from 107 Avenue to River Valley Road starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The road is expected to reopen by 9 p.m. Saturday.

The multi-use trail on the west side of Groat Road will also be closed from north of Government House Park to south of 107 Avenue.

The road and trail will be closed so crews can remove the insulation enclosure that was used when the deck was poured on the 102 Avenue Bridge last month.

Construction on the 102 Avenue bridge began in July 2014. The $32-million project was originally scheduled to be complete by September 2015, but after troubles with the bridge girders, the city said the opening date is now more likely to be the summer or fall of 2016.
