The Calgary Flames will arrive at the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo with the sixth-overall pick.

Calgary had a 8.5 per cent chance of picking first overall.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, who finished with the worst regular season record, won the first overall pick – must to the disappointment of Vancouver fans who gathered in a downtown Boston Pizza to watch the proceedings.

The Leafs haven’t picked first since 1985 when they selected Wendel Clark.

The Winnipeg Jets and the Columbus Blue Jackets will pick second and third overall respectively.

The Jets had a 7.5 percent chance of winning the draft lottery which was held Saturday night in Toronto.

The top pick is expected to be Auston Matthews. The American centre spent last season playing with the ZSC lions of the Swiss National league where he scored 24 goals and 22 assists in 36 games.

Taking things a step further, when you add up each Canadian team’s chances of taking the top pick, there was a 78.5 per cent chance the pick was coming to Canada.

As for the rest of the Canadian teams, the Edmonton Oilers will pick 4th, the Vancouver Canucks 5th, the Calgary Flames 6th, the Montreal Canadiens 9th, and the Ottawa Senators will pick 12th.

The 2016 NHL Entry Draft will be held on June 24-25 in Buffalo, N.Y.
