Calgary police have released photos and video of a person of interest they’re hoping to identify as they investigate a number of fires in the community of Marlborough which they believe were intentionally set.
The first fire was on Tuesday, March 29 at around 11 p.m. The Calgary Fire Department said the first started in a garbage can in the 0-100 block of Marbank Way N.E. and spread to a fence in the alley.
The second fire was at a house in the same location at around 2:10 a.m. on Friday, April 1. Crews arrived to find flames eating away at the exterior of the rear of the home. Damage caused by the blaze was estimated to be $20,000.
The next evening, a third fire started at the same address at around 9 p.m. The fire was again located at the rear of the same home.
“Investigators believe all three fires are arson and that the residents are being targeted, however, a specific motive is not yet known,” the Calgary Fire Department said in a Thursday news release.
Members of the Arson Unit are working with the homeowners in case more fires are set.
Total damage estimates are pegged at $150,000.
Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police or contact Crime Stoppers.
