Ranging in age from 61 to 92, the mixed medley team of Betty Brussel, Conny Stamhuis, Ross Carviel and Tony Hoft finished with a time of 3:43.41 to beat a national record.
92 year old Brussel didn’t stop there. She also set a provincial record for swimmers 90-94 in the 100 meter breaststroke.
“Although we have swimmers who competed as kids, the majority have only started to compete relatively recently as adults. These swimmers are the heart of masters swimming and have made great strides,” said the swim club’s vice- president Carmelle Guidi-Swan in a media release.
“It is truly amazing to be in a sport where 21 year olds and 90 year olds can take part in events together and not only cheer each other on, but inspire each other as well.”
