Luxury travellers will have the chance to stay on a “floating seahorse” on their next visit to Dubai, and sleep with the fish – so to speak.
The floating villas, with underwater bedrooms, are a part of real estate agency Kleindienst Group’s “Heart of Europe” development within The World, a manmade archipelago in the Persian Gulf.
In their description of the structures, Kleindienst Group said the floating seahorses are “essentially a boat without propulsion.”

Each villa has three floors: a submerged level with a bedroom and bathroom, a sea-level deck with a dining room and kitchen and an upper deck fitted with a glass-bottomed hot tub.
The submerged bedrooms are described as having floor-to-ceiling windows with “uninterrupted sea views.”
Dubai’s quick growth and development of its manmade islands have been documented as having significant environmental impacts.
However, the U.A.E’s Chief Commercial Officer for classification and safety regulation told Gulf News that the villas were designed to consider safety and environmental impact.
The developers plan to build over 125 floating seahorses, each costing as much as $4 million.
The villas will range from 1,700 to 4,000 square feet and weigh 188 tonnes.
The first villa was completed in December 2015, and the entire project is set to be completed in 2018.
