A 21-year-old woman was rushed to hospital Tuesday morning after being run over by a truck while riding her bike just off Argyll Road in east Edmonton.
Witnesses told police the woman appeared to be riding her bike southbound on the east sidewalk of 86 Street before allegedly going into the intersection to cross Coronet Street from the north side of the street.
The Edmonton Police Service said a truck was heading west on Coronet Street, attempting to turn north on 86 Street when it allegedly struck the cyclist.
Emergency crews were called to that intersection around 8 a.m.
Fire crews could be seen talking to the woman, who along with a bicycle, was pinned under a red truck. She was extracted and rushed to hospital.
The EPS said she suffered minor injuries and was treated and transported to hospital for “precautionary reasons.”
No charges have been laid against either the cyclist or the driver of the truck, police said.
Christopher Mendonca was a passenger in the truck and says he saw the cyclist at the last moment.
“I said ‘bike!’
“I ran out, (the driver) ran out. We had a paramedic on site within two minutes, which was pretty amazing.”
“They were here instantly. No delay. Very responsive,” Mendonca said. “Everyone here stopped their vehicles, pulled over.”
