WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Police are calling a Wolseley fire that caused $4.5 million in damage suspicious.
The fire broke out early Saturday morning at a development under construction at Maryland St and Westminster Ave. Several buildings were destroyed and six people were sent to hospital including four firefighters.
“The fact that we didn’t have fatalities in this fire was amazing work by all emergency personnel involved, and luck,” said Winnipeg Police constable Rob Carver.
Police say two suspects were seen leaving the construction site around the time the fire started. They aren’t releasing any information about their descriptions.

The scene is still under investigation and the fire hasn’t yet been labelled arson.
However, a fire that broke out a couple blocks away, two hours later has been deemed arson by police and provincial investigators.
It started in a garage on Chestnut St and caused $80,000 in damage.
Police are investigating the two fires as potentially related.
The firefighters and civilians injured in the Westminster Ave were all released from hospital on Saturday.
