CALGARY – A 50-year-old Calgary man is facing charges after investigators discovered a hidden underground tunnel system containing stolen property in the community of Queensland.
Officers made the discovery while executing a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Queen Charlotte Way S.E. on Saturday, March 19.
Police said the tunnel extended approximately 10 metres into the backyard, and contained everything from bicycles, tools and electronics to guns and ammunition.
In total, an estimated $65,000 to $100,000 worth of stolen goods was recovered.
“It is believed that the offender targeted residences by forcing entry to basement windows and by prying open overhead garage doors to release the emergency manual release mechanism,” police said in a Tuesday news release.

Police have set up an online photo gallery of the items recovered so as to return them to their rightful owners. Those who see items in the gallery which may be their property are asked to email candid@calgarypolice.ca before May 14.
