Île-des-Chênes North Stars win opening game of Allan Cup

The Île-des-Chênes North Stars got the 2016 Allan Cup started off right. The North Stars scored three goals in the first period as they won their opening game 8-3 over the Stoney Creek Generals on Monday at the TG Smith Centre in Steinbach.

Devon Leblanc led the way for the North Stars. He had a hat trick, scoring the final three goals for Île-des-Chênes. He also had one assist for a four point effort. Former Portage Terriers forward Tanner Waldvogel scored twice. Kory Scoran also had two goals in the victory.

Former Boston Bruins and Manitoba Moose forward Lee Goren had one assist for the North Stars while Kris Westblom stopped 22 of 25 shots in the win. The North Stars outshot the Generals 47-25.

The North Stars next game is on Wednesday against the Pacific champion Bentley Generals.

The final is on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
