April is a busy month for parents. Winter sports are wrapping up and it’s the start of a new season for many young athletes. But for some kids, playing even one sport is out of their reach.

That’s where KidSport Saskatoon comes in.

The organization held its annual breakfast Thursday morning, raising money for children of families who face financial obstacles to participate in community sport programs.

Kendal Netmaker was the keynote speaker. He said if it wasn’t for KidSport and his participation in sport, he would not be the business owner and entrepreneur he is today.

“Sports is the reason I’m successful today. When I was a kid one friend helped me to play sports and when I was in high school I was a KidSport athlete as well, so it’s very meaningful to be at an event like this,” said Netmaker, the owner and founder of Neechi Gear.

“You just don’t know who you’re going to invest in, you might be helping someone create their own business through sport, you never know.”

KidSport has helped over 25,000 Saskatoon children play a sport of their choice since starting 22 years ago.
