UPDATE: Braidy Vermette captured by police

Prince Albert Police confirmed Thursday morning that Braidy Vermette and Tristen Smith were arrested and taken into custody Wednesday night.

Vermette was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant following a daring ambush in Saskatchewan. Braidy Chase Vermette, 28, escaped late in the evening on March 30 while being transported to hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted arm injury.

Vermette is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Troy Napope, who has been missing since June of last year. He was being held at the Prince Albert Provincial Correctional Centre for a pending court appearance on April 4.

When Vermette was taken to the hospital for treatment by correctional officers, they were ambushed by two masked individuals – one armed with a gun and the other bear mace.

The two correctional officers were sprayed and Vermette went willingly with the two individuals in a dark-coloured SUV.

Police now believe one of those individuals is Ricky Favel, 30, who is currently wanted for breach of recognizance.

Favel is five-foot six, 166 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police say Vermette has a large cut on his right elbow that may need stitches.

Ricky Favel (left) is still wanted by police.  Tristen Smith (centre, right) is now in custody. Favel is alleged to have helped murder suspect Braidy Vermette escape during an ambush at a Prince Albert hospital on March 30, 2016. Smith is Vermette’s girlfriend. Anyone with information on Favel’s whereabouts is asked to contact Prince Albert police at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
