Cumberland riding remains stronghold for Saskatchewan NDP

The Saskatchewan NDP Party has retained its seat in the Cumberland riding. Incumbent Doyle Vermette won on Saskatchewan election day.

He is of Métis ancestry and was born and raised in Prince Albert. Vermette first won the seat in a 2008 in a byelection after Joan Beatty resigned to run federally.

Encompassing the entire northeast quarter of the province, the riding has gone to the Saskatchewan NDP – or its predecessor, the CCF – in every election since 1952.

La Ronge Mayor Thomas Sierzycki was running for the Saskatchewan Party against Vermette and two other candidates.
