MONTREAL – Moisson Montreal’s Great Food Drive for Children has kicked off in the city and this year a new activity was added to the campaign.
Moisson Montreal opened its doors to the public Saturday to celebrate Children’s Day –a fun filled-day featuring face painting, bouncy castles and a brunch at an indoor sugar shack hosted by Bob Le Chef.
Global Montreal’s senior anchor Jamie Orchard was also on hand to take part in the festivities.
“It’s such an important cause,” Orchard said. “I’m so happy to be involved.”
Of course the day’s events are about more than having fun.

Organizers hope to raise awareness about the issues surrounding food insecurity in Montreal and also to raise some funds.
“The whole point is to encourage Montrealers to give,” Orchard said.
While Moisson Montreal provides food to 250 community organizations, Orchard explained that the Food Drive campaign is designed specifically for children.
“Little kids, zero to five-years-old are going hungry in our city,” she said. “The estimates are that there are 18,000 kids of that age that are hungry right now, as we speak.”
Organizers are hoping to raise $350,000 to provide monthly food assistance to those very children.
The food drive, now in its fifth year, ends April 9.
