WINNIPEG — Politicians, police and The Forks jumped in on the April Fool’s fun.

It started with a media release early Friday morning from the provincial government announcing a deal was made for Manitoba to annex Kenora, Ontario.

“Today, the NDP government is pleased to welcome over 42,000 new residents into our province,” Premier Greg Selinger said in the release.

Manitoba’s population grew to over one 1,345,000 and gained more than 400,000 square kilometres according to the release. In exchange, Manitobans can “no longer ridicule residents of Toronto for calling in the military when it snows. However, Manitoba will maintain the right mock Toronto Maple Leafs fans who wear Leafs jerseys in the MTS Centre.”

“I look forward to cheaper hydroelectricity, home heating and auto insurance rates, as well as much needed investments in our roads, schools and health care,” Kenora Mayor Dave Canfield said in the release.

The Manitoba RCMP got into the spirit with a tweet this morning claiming they were changing their vehicles over to the well known electric cars, Tesla. The tweet was capped off with the hashtag #TeslaModel.

Hours later they sent out a tweet reminding people not to believe everything they see online with the same hashtag.

“The Forks Market building used to be two separate stables when the site was being used as a railyard. Empty tenant spaces will be turned back into horse stalls allowing guests to pet and feed horses, making it a truly interactive experience,” Paul Jordan, Chief Executive Officer with The Forks said on its website.
