SEGUIN TOWNSHIP, Ont. – A 22-year-old Ajax, Ont., woman is facing numerous charges after provincial police used a spike belt to stop a car on Highway 400 early Thursday.

Police say a patrol officer noticed a vehicle varying speeds and weaving on the highway in Seguin Township, about 200 kilometres north of Toronto, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

They say the driver failed to stop, and the officer discontinued a pursuit after a short distance.

A spike belt was deployed and the female driver was arrested.

Natasha Rotta faces charges that include flight while being pursued by police, marijuana possession, careless driving, speeding, and novice driver with blood-alcohol above zero.

She is to appear in Parry Sound, Ont., court on April 21.
