The occupants of a home in North York managed to escape from an early morning fire.

The fire broke out just after midnight at a residence on Patricia Avenue south of Steeles.

Police say five people managed to get out safely but one person suffered minor smoke inhalation.

A cat was also killed in the fire despite attempts to revive the animal.

There’s no word yet on what caused the blaze.

It’s estimated the damage to the home is around $200,000.
