Lethbridge College’s Centre Core was full of excitement Wednesday afternoon as it celebrated the diversity seen on campus with the annual Bridging Cultures event.
The celebration brings together musicians, dancers, artisans and community organizations as they share their rich history and traditions with students and staff at the college.
Exhibitors lined the hallways with interactive displays and information about the different cultures on campus. Although the event is a yearly celebration put on for the staff and students, the public was invited to attend and visit exhibitors and enjoy the performances.
International Activities Assistant for Lethbridge College, John Pogorzelski, said much like the City of Lethbridge, the college is proud to represent and showcase many diverse backgrounds.
“It’s very important to be able to share, to be able to eliminate racism and eliminate discrimination and allow everyone to celebrate who they are and be who they are,” Pogorzelski said.
Lethbridge College is home to nearly 250 international students each year, from over 50 different countries. Organizers said the event is a perfect way for those students to share their cultures with their classmates.
Organizers hope the annual event helps Canadian students understand the importance of making the campus an inclusive and diverse place to learn.
