MONTREAL – Pierrefonds native Patrick Lehman will be front and centre at the 2016 Juno Awards this Sunday.

He is nominated for best Soul/R&B recording for his new album Butchy’s Son.

The album is a tribute to his father, who passed away shortly before Lehman hit the studio to record.

Global News Senior Anchor Jamie Orchard had a chance to sit down with Lehman and discuss his big nomination.

“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, and I’m flying out tomorrow,” he said, a little flustered.

He’s up against some big names like Alessia Cara, Dru and The Weeknd.

He said he doesn’t expect to win, but it’s really the nomination that’s got him excited.

“As an independent artist from Quebec, I’ll say that I’m just thrilled to be nominated, to be recognised for the album as a whole,” he said.

“Just to be there to represent my city, my province and the album is fantastic.”

Lehman will be dedicating his performance at Juno Fest to his late father, for whom the album is named.

“I am Butchy’s son, and it’s a way to honour my father,” Lehman said, adding the song King was written after the passing of his father.

He attributes his musical interests to Butchy, who taught him how to play guitar as a child.

Lehman said that his Juno Fest performance will be an emotional, acoustic set; and although his fate rests in a sealed envelope, he feels that being recognised for the album is already a big win.
