LAVAL – A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for Laval’s Île Bigras, Île Parizeau and Île Verte, affecting some 400 residents.
The warning was issued following a water main break Sunday that caused a sinkhole to open up at the intersection of du Pont and Bord-de-l’eau streets.
The bridge leading to Île Bigras was temporarily closed to traffic and the water supply shut off, as work crews made the necessary repairs.

While the water supply to the islands has been reestablished, residents are being warned to boil the water for at least one minute before using.
Officials say tap water may be coloured as a result of the work on the water main.
There is no word on when the advisory might be lifted.
In the interim, water bottles are being handed out to residents at the community centre.
