REGINA – Elections Saskatchewan said as of Saturday, there are 751,564 registered voters in the province, out of a total 815,000 eligible voters.
Over 150,000 more voters registered for this election compared to the 2011 election.
According to Elections Saskatchewan, it’s a significant increase from four years ago where only 76 per cent of eligible voters registered, compared to the 92 per cent who registered this year.
“It’s an administrative tool for us, but really it can be a convenience tool for voters as well.”
“It ensures you get your voter information card in the mail, that tells you where and when to vote, and what ID you need to bring”, Elections Saskatchewan Tim Kydd explained.
Elections Saskatchewan said the increase is a result of several busy months of promoting registration, having voters register, and updating voters’ identity and address information.
“That’s been our focus, how do we reduce and remove the barriers to participating in elections. How do we make it easier for voters to vote.”, Kydd said.
Anyone not yet registered can still do so in person at their assigned voting location, when advance voting polls open on Tuesday March 29, or on Election Day on April 4.
